Ignis Brunensis will kick off the prelude with an Italian flair

28/5/2026

The Brno-South district is in for a packed Saturday on May 30: the all-day program for South Brno Children’s Day will be complemented by the Burger Fest and an opening fireworks show featuring Italian rhythms and colors.

At 10 a.m., the gates of the bathing place Biotope will open, offering free admission all day for visitors of all ages. At the same time, the traveling street food festival Burger Fest will begin at the Hněvkovského Sports Area, featuring an all-day-long program and dozens of vendors offering burgers, fries as well as sweets. Children will enjoy theater shows, a magician’s performance, and face painting, while adults can participate in one of the many challenges and contests.

The program in the southern part of Brno will be complemented by evening concerts – performances by David Mattioli and saxophonist KJ SAX. All the events are free of charge.

Brno-South will host the opening fireworks display for the 29th annual Ignis Brunensis

The day will symbolically conclude with the Italian-style and rhythm-inspired Bella Ciao fireworks prelude, prepared for the audience by Flash Barrandov SFX and designer Jaroslav Štolba. The fireworks musical will feature songs such as Nessun Dorma from the opera Turandot and the Italian 1980s pop hit Sarà Perché Ti Amo. The fireworks display will light up the sky over Hopsálkov at 10:30 p.m., followed by an afterparty with a DJ.

David Grund, the mayor of Brno-South, is also looking forward to the weekend program. “We’re glad that the pyrotechnicians have decided that the fireworks display will have an Italian style and musical rhythm. After all, our district is geographically the closest to Italy in all of Brno,” adds Grund.

Event organizers are encouraging visitors to use public transportation whenever possible, particularly the additional service on tram line 12. For parking, visitors may use only the parking lot at Avion Shopping Park Brno, from which a well-lit path leads directly to the Hněvkovského Sports Area.

The last weekend in May in Brno will also feature DigiFest at the Observatory

Space enthusiasts should head to the Brno Observatory and Planetarium this weekend for DigiFest: a showcase of educational films on astronomy and the natural sciences. Over the weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to watch a total of 12 new movies created for digital planetariums (in English). Tickets can be purchased on the Brno Observatory and Planetarium website.
