The Finns have prepared an extraordinary show
The first Finnish team at Ignis Brunensis thrilled the audience with a spectacular pyromusical. Their show was built around a gradual build-up.
“I can’t reveal everything, but the Brno audience is in for a surprise in the opening segment…,” promised Johan Holländer, designer at JoHo Pyro, in an interview before the fireworks display. And the surprise did indeed happen: it took the form of intense flashes right before the fireworks began, leaving no one in any doubt that an extraordinary spectacle awaited them.
The Finnish team approached the opening of the show, The Pendulum of Light and Silence, in an almost minimalist style, often making do with just one or two types of effects – but these lingered in the sky for a long time or created falling effects. According to Holländer, this is part of their signature style: “Perhaps the most distinctive feature of our shows is that we strive for a clean execution and for the effects to connect with the feelings evoked by the music.”
The audience’s reactions confirm that the Finnish team succeeded. “The beginning was the absolute best. I have to admit that I didn’t expect those striking effects right at the start,” said Janka Vinšová. “It’s something completely different from what we’ve seen this year,” added Alice Ondráková.
From intense Finnish metal, the pyromusical transitioned seamlessly into the playful rhythm of this year’s theme song, “Discombobulate” by Hans Zimmer. “The segment accompanied by “The Sound of Silence” is also emotionally powerful, and the very end of our pyromusical is a crescendo of colors, emotions, and finesse,” added Holländer. When the song began with the words “Hello darkness, my old friend,” the audience held its breath. The last two songs, “Where You Are” and “Tattoo,” on the other hand, featured a multitude of vivid and intense effects that filled the sky above the Brno Lake.
Viewers also had positive reactions on Facebook, where they can rate individual pyromusicals (specifically on the Facebook pages of Ignis Brunensis and Radio Krokodýl) and act as a jury for the audience award. “Of all the fireworks displays, this one felt the most in sync with the rhythm to me. For me, the Czech Republic and Finland are the best this year,” said Anastasie Bartlová.
In addition, a photo contest offering valuable prizes from partners such as Regiojet, Olympia Brno, and the Chateau de Frontiere border chateau is running through September 30. Anyone can enter the contest with photos capturing any of the fireworks – shows from the international competition fireworks displays at the Lake or the fireworks prelude. A panel of experts will select the winners.
