The Festival of Fun continues through the summer

The 29th annual Ignis Brunensis fireworks competition has come to a close, but the Festival of Fun continues throughout the summer at many locations in Brno. A rich cultural program awaits visitors at Biskupský dvůr, and the popular planet models will return to Kraví hora.

Summer at Biskupský dvůr will feature a cultural program through early August. Through July 12, the Brno City Theater will perform the now-iconic musical Noc na Karlštejně (A Night at Karlstein); from July 14 to 19, the Brno National Theater ballet company will take the stage with Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet. July 23 and 24 will feature folklore evenings, and on July 29 and 30, the Frída Theater Company will return to the stage. Summer at Biskupský dvůr will conclude on August 2 with Flamenco Night.

The popular inflatable models of planets will return to Kraví hora during the popular Festival of Planets. Through July 12, visitors can see Gigalón and its satellites (Jupiter), Heliosféra (the Sun), Terralóna (Earth), Lunalón (the Moon), and Singulón (a model of a black hole). From August 3 to 9, Gigalón and Lunalón will return, joined by Temnalóna (a model of Earth at night based on satellite images) and Marsmeloun (Mars). The models are inflated when weather permits and on display every day until 11:30 p.m. The Brno Observatory and Planetarium has also prepared a rich accompanying program: lectures, performances at the observatory, a summer movie theater, exhibitions, and physics and chemistry experiments.

Throughout the summer, Brno will also host a number of exhibitions and cultural and sporting events for both children and adults. The complete program for the entertainment festival is available in the festival’s events calendar.

The 30th anniversary edition of the Ignis Brunensis International Festival will take place in June 2027, extending into the start of summer holidays. “We will confirm the exact dates once the MotoGP schedule is announced. For the international fireworks competition at the Brno Lake, we are tentatively planning to start on June 23. Spectators can look forward to four fireworks shows at the lake. The Ignis Drone Shows will also continue, with at least two scheduled. We’ll see if we can expand the drone shows next year. We’re also considering an international competition, but that will depend primarily on what the budget allows,” said Ondřej Morávek of the organizing company SNIP & CO.
