Elephant and dinosaur flew over the lake
The drone show titled Birth of Life, featuring 500 drones in the sky, brought to life the Big Bang, the planets, and the story of evolution.
The creators dedicated the second drone show of the 5th annual Ignis Drone Show to the origin of life on Earth. They depicted the very origins of the universe and the Big Bang, and all eight planets of the solar system gradually appeared in the sky above the Brno lake.
A fleet of 500 drones then illustrated the emergence of life, from the first cells in the ocean all the way to Homo sapiens. Spectators could see fish, a frog, a flying bird, a Tyrannosaurus rex, and an African elephant in the Brno sky. The audience also appreciated the spectacle: “The drone shows get better and better every year,” remarked Mr. and Mrs. Bezděk. Their son Daniel was clear about the best part of the show: “The T-Rex was the absolute best! Next year they should do a show about dinosaurs.”
“To me, drone shows are like a short interactive movie in the sky. I really enjoyed it,” said Helena Kořenková, describing her experience.
Brno actor Petr Štěpán provided the voiceover for the show. The drone show was produced by the Brno-based company Spectrum Production, which stages drone shows around the world, including, this year, for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
The organizers struggled with the weather during the second drone show. “Strong winds blew throughout the afternoon and evening, and there was even a threat of rain or thunderstorms. We even considered the possibility of holding the drone show after the fireworks, but in the end, everything went as planned. Strong winds, rain, or even changes in the Earth’s electromagnetic field can be a problem for drone shows, which is why we always monitor the weather closely and have a large number of contingency plans ready,” explained Ondřej Morávek from the organizing company SNIP&CO.
Viewers will be able to vote for their favorite from this year’s drone shows on the Facebook pages of Ignis Brunensis and Radio Krokodýl from Tuesday, July 7, through Thursday, July 9. Based on their votes, the audience choice award for the drone shows will be announced.
A photo contest offering valuable prizes from partners such as Regiojet, Olympia Brno, and the Chateau de Frontiere border chateau is running through September 30. Anyone can submit photos capturing this year’s drone shows to the contest; the best images will be selected by a panel of experts.
