A fiery race started above Brno Lake

The Polish team SUREX prepared the premiere of a new show called Pyro Race for the Brno audience. The idea for it was born from the obligatory music for this year's edition, the song The Race by Yello, which was complemented by the work of the German group 2WEI. “Working with music like this gives us creative freedom. The passion of 2WEI combines with ours so that at a certain moment we can stop thinking and analysing and let ourselves be carried away by emotions,” revealed designer Jaroslaw Suzdalewicz.

The fiery race told the story of a boy who dreams of a career as a racer. He wants to start his career with illegal street races, but encounters toxicity and aggression. So he decides on a more conventional career path and devotes himself to kart racing. In the end, his dream of racing for a Formula 1 team comes true. “It was a pyrotechnic race about achieving dreams, told through emotions, lights and colours,” added Suzdalewicz.

“I liked the theme. I didn't expect to ever see a motorsport-themed fireworks display at Ignis Brunensis,” said Aleš Kopřiva, praising the team’s choice.

The pyrotechnicians opted for large and repeated effects playing with all colours. Combined with distinctive musical arrangements, they literally took over the sky above Brno Lake for themselves. The audience also appreciated the lively spectacle:

“A truly breathtaking show! The Pyro Race was like a dance of stars in the night sky. Every spark had a heart, every explosion an emotion. I felt like I was in a fairy tale full of light and passion. Thank you for this romantic experience above Brno Lake!” shared Pája Mikesová enthusiastically. Mirka Fenclová also gave the pyromusical a positive review: “For me, every fireworks display is better and better. The Polish one was the best so far.”

“The idea was born from the emotions we felt while listening to the obligatory music and creating the rest of the background music. We like motor sports and many careers start with karting and end with Formula 1. This also inspired us to create a story of a young athlete who can fulfill his dreams without taking shortcuts,” explained Suzdalewicz. The fact that this approach pays off in motorsport was confirmed a few days ago. By coincidence, the Polish motorsport fireworks display took place about a week after Polish racer and first Polish Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica and his team won the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.

The Brno audience can look forward to this year's final fireworks display on Wednesday, 25 June. The Czech Ignis Brunensis Team, with the support of pyrotechnicians from Austria and Germany, has prepared a pyromusical show called Guardians of the Galaxy, inspired by action and superhero movies.
